This process is customized to fit each family. It is possible to place a child in crisis in 24 to 48 hours, it is also possible to spend over a year finding the appropriate school placement. In each case the goal is to accomplish these steps: |
|
Steps to a Successful Placement |
|
Step 1: The Introduction
Before we meet with you, we need to review
all of your child’s educational and psychological
records, including report cards and any school or
independent evaluations. During our introductory meeting, we work with families to define and focus our search. We discuss your child’s physical, social
and academic development. You and, if appropriate,
your child will share your educational, social and
emotional goals and expectations for the future.
Finally, we outline an appropriate timeline for the
placement process to suit your individual needs. Click here to begin the process |

Step 2: The Review
We perform a thorough review of all records, including interviewing teachers, therapists or other professionals
who can assist us in understanding your child’s unique
strengths and weaknesses. We then screen, identify and
contact the schools and programs we feel will address
your specific requirements. |
. |
Step 3: The Match
After careful review, we match your child to the best
schools or programs available to suit his or her particular
issues. We then meet to discuss the suggested placements
with you and provide all reasonable information necessary
for you to make a well-informed decision.
After your child is placed, we maintain contact with the
professionals at the school and monitor your child’s
progress. If further placements are necessary, we will
continue to work with your family and the professionals who
know your child to advise you on the next appropriate step.
|
. |
Step 4: The Result
Many families report tremendous relief once their child is in an environment with the appropriate structure and
support. Most importantly, parents describe a joy in
watching their child begin to experience success.
Eventually, everyone, including the student, is able to
make plans for a healthy and productive future. |
